FLORESCENCE: A CITY IN FLOWER: Watercolours by Swati Chandak Sharma
August 30 to September 7, 2024
Despite Mumbai’s relentless urban development, the city flowers, and bears fruit. Each flower that blooms defies the onslaught upon its survival, as encroachment into the city's vital stretches of forest, marshland, and coastal wilderness continues.
In contrast, Swati Chandak Sharma’s 'Florescence: A City in Flower' shows nature bursting at the seams.
In this inaugural exhibition, the flowers and foliage of Mumbai come alive with sensitive brushwork, through Swati’s delicate watercolour paintings. Of her immediate neighbourhood Swati observes, “I see the reckless over-pruning of ancient trees that have withstood and outlived us. Through my watercolours, I strive to heighten the silent suffering of nature and its struggle to survive the advance of an impatient and ever-expanding metropolis.”
Florescence is a call, to protect the fragile natural habitats of Mumbai.
