About Artisans Sustainable Development Foundation (ASDF):
ASDF’s aims to empower the artisan and educate the consumer - to go beyond a relationship of commercial exchange, to instill lasting value, through educational and development programmes that raise consciousness. Recognizing that artisans are regarded as “highly skilled cheap labour”, ASDF aims to develop in them an ownership of the creative process and product, turning away from dehumanizing production.
ASDF’s mission is to evangelize the cause of artisans, and align with change-makers and thought leaders, to engage the next generation of consumers to adopt eco-conscious handmade as a lifestyle choice.
ASDF’ celebrates India’s handmade heritage not just as a legacy, but also as its most valuable local resource and identity- ensuring continuity through contemporary innovation and preservation – as an antidote to homogenized global offerings.
