Being and Belonging: A Journey of Curiosity and Imagination, is a capstone of Uday Dandavate's life as a designer, researcher, author, poet, and oral historian.

Uday Dandavate, a trained designer and design researcher, focuses on understanding how everyday people perceive and practice design in shaping their lives and environments. In Being & Belonging, a synthesis of articles written over the past thirty years, he explores the explicit and latent dimensions of human nature, touching upon topics such as human psychology, cognitive models, social imagination, and social capital.

The book traces his journey towards embracing Participatory Design to liberate himself from the trappings of egocentric design and cultivate a new consciousness of the world around him.

At a time when 'design' is synonymous with 'style', Uday's approach of 'design as service' is a reminder of the vital role design can play in helping us to understand what it means to be human in a post-pandemic, post-AI future.
