About MAKU
MAKU is a conceptual fashion brand rooted in the philosophy of its founder director Santanu Das. A conceptual artist, Maku, for Santanu, is an extension of his artistic oeuvre.
The brand offers clothing, from farm to fashion, using only hand spun and hand woven textile in Indigo and other naturally dyed colours.
It's focus on Indigo, as a colour of a sustainable future, is a conscious choice. Maku creates one of a kind garments exploring the dye, showcasing the richness and versatility of the colour - from the palest powder blue to blue-black.
The symbolism of Indigo extends beyond its colour, as a weapon against consumerism. Maku garments whisper, they do not scream. They are intimate, they demand your touch.
The label believes in slow fashion and textiles that use indigenous practices - hand-spun and hand woven - bringing into focus India’s textile history with Khadi as the symbol of the skill and sensitivity towards material resources, which shaped it's economy for centuries.
