This vibrant tablecloth is part of a small-batch hand printed textile collection, using traditional wood blocks - with a difference.
Printed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, this pattern recalls a local diagonal resist dyeing technique called 'Leheriya'. It uses just one striped block that is rotated to create the geometry. The Desi Pop collection is inspired as much by local colour and aesthetics, as it is by art from the psychedelic sixties to today. It teases the eye with multicolour optical illusions, that emphasize glitches or errors in printing. A distinctive remix of disparate sources emerges.
This piece takes more than 12 hours to make and owing to its complexity, is executed by just one skilled craftsman from start to finish, using old wood blocks in unexpected ways.
