'Dhavleri' depicts imagery related to wedding ceremonies. In the centre is Dhavleri, a woman-priest who performs the marriage ritual. They are surrounded by couples, 'Suvasini', representing the bride and groom riding a horse.
ARTISANS’ presents the first ever exhibition in Mumbai of the brothers Mayur (29) and Tushar (38) Vayeda, internationally celebrated artists from the indigenous Warli community in western India.
In Regeneration the Vayedas seek to reconnect with their ancestors; to reclaim and reconstruct their ancient legacy for a new generation; and to transform their collective lives. This call for regeneration is inspired by natural and indigenous systems that heal and restore damaged ecosystems.
In this series, the Vayeda brothers adapt their inherited style of painting to communicate. While they strive to preserve the basic grammar of its style and remain deeply connected to its origins, their concepts go far beyond, to address universal concerns. In the process they move their tradition forward, towards the vanguard of contemporary Warli art.
