"I fell in love with this embroidered Chanderi remnant, but there was only 2 meters available. I had to wait to find an exact match for the remaining 3.5 meters to complete the sari. I finally found this Banarasi brocade fabric which I thought complemented it perfectly. I hope you agree!" say Roy.
“My tryst with upcycling saris began when my sister, Yashodhara, left behind a legacy of coveted saris. She had impeccable taste,” says Roy. After gifting some saris, Roy began to salvage and restore others. "The challenge of integrating disparate elements into a seamless whole excites me.”
A Sari Bank now welcomes contributions. So each sari gives at least three times: once when its donated, then when its upcycled, and finally, when proceeds of sales are donated to benefit a local hospice, Shanti Avedna Sadan, Mumbai.
