See all Kubsa Handcrafted Textiles' Work
Cotton Ilkal sarees are handwoven on the pit looms of Guledgudda using dobby mechanism for weaving the extra warp in the border. Using fine cotton in the warp and weft they use the traditional Chikki Paras border that originated from the Ilkal-Sulebhavi region. These sarees use the finest cotton with accent of silks. Kubsa is reviving the once traditional weaving techniques by supporting the entire ecosystem of this handloom cluster. Our mission is to create sustainable livelihood opportunities across value chains.
Kubsa uses design as catalyst for change in the handloom sector in the North Karnataka region. North Karnataka is a treasure trove of exceptionally skilled textiles that have been unexplored in the context of Khana of Guledgudda. For decades no design interventions have happened resulting in low demand. It was imperative to give new life to this once hugely popular textile cherished and worn by the women of North Karnataka and South Maharashtra. Our products are the perfect balance of age old techniques with contemporary aesthetics to suit the needs of the urban consumer
