Art-to-wear by artist Smriti Dixit is a spirited assemblage of fibres, fabrics and found-objects, sewn, stitched, folded or knotted. Using materials and methods traditionally associated with women’s domestic labour, Dixit bridges art craft and design, and explores her role as an artist-artisan, “working with art and no-art”.
Smriti Dixit graduated from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda in 1994. Her solo shows include Healing and Stitching Together, Zurich and Sils Maria Robie Museum, Switzerland (2014), Feasting & Fasting, Art Musings, Mumbai, (2012), Stitching Together, Aicon Gallery, Palo Alto, USA (2007), Serendipity, Goa (2018) curated by Ranjit Hoskote, and Shadows of Water, Steps of Light, Art Musings, Mumbai (2019). Dixit received the Jackson Pollock Grant for 2012-13.
