This boho-chic stole brings together the crafts of two neighboring communities - the Khatris of Ajrakhpur and the nomadic Rabaris.
Rabari women are skilled at applique or 'katab', reusing and recycling old cloth beyond recognition. Here, they upcycle remnants of hand-block-printed Ajrakh cloth into accessories, adding a traditional quilting stitch through the length of the stole to complement the appliqued borders.
Many Rabari women turn from embroidery to patchwork and applique, as they age, as fine embroidery requires good eyesight. Rabari applique patterns often follow the same repertoire of motifs as embroidery.
