Katna’s Kantha, a Street Survivor’s Project in Murshidabad now employs 1,500 women in 50 villages, empowering them through livelihoods. Their embroidery and quilting are unique to the Muslim community. The Kantha or quilting stitch is a distinct counted thread-stitch, where intricate geometric patterns bind together layers of recycled saris into sarees, dupattas, stoles, blouses and dresses.
